Ngalawa Boat Race – Ngalawa Cup Diamonds La Gemma dell'Est

Ngalawa Boat Race – Ngalawa Cup

from June 25, 2017 to July 4, 2017

The race is held twice a year in January and June following the local trade winds. The Northerly Kaskazi wind in January and the Southerly Kuzi in July.

The racecourse is off the coast of Tanzania between the Zanzibar Archipelago and the stunning Lindi region to the south.

START LINE: Kilwa, Lindi
Stunning, friendly place in Southern Tanzania. From the capital it’s in the opposite direction to Kilimanjaro so there’s a glorious lack of guide-book-following backpackers. Proper Tanzania this.

FINISH LINE: Nungwi, Zanzibar Island
The perfect spot for a finish party, equipped with all the amenities (and bars) you’ll need to contemplate your imminent return to the real world.

25th – 26th June: Pre-race training

27th June: Race launch

4th July: Prize ceremony & finish party*

Not only is The Ngalawa Cup an industrial dose of adventure, it’s also about Saving the World. In fact they ask every team to raise a minimum of £1000 for charity, at least £500 of which goes to our official charity Cool Earth.

Ngalawas are traditional Tanzanian fishing boats, dug out by hand from mango trees and used for hundreds of years by locals for short trips.
